It is a happy coincidence that as York and Lviv are working to become sister cities, the European Movement UK has produced a powerful new film this year in Lviv to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Lviv is known as Ukraine’s humanitarian hub and Flags in the Wind highlights the resilience and determination of people fleeing the devastation of war, drawing parallels with Britain’s own wartime past.

It reminds us never to take Europe’s peace for granted, amplifying voices of those fighting tyranny today.

• Under the Government Homes for Ukraine scheme, people are being asked to sponsor Ukraine refugees by name.
• As this is not easy, York City of Sanctuary, in partnership with City of York Council, are matching accommodation with Ukraine refugees.
• People will need to register on the National site as well, but we will match people from York with refugees wanting to come here.
• If you have accommodation and would like to sponsor a refugee from Ukraine, please fill out the form below and register your interest.
